Impossibilities of the Universe

So I have a bit of extra time to sit and ponder about the world and one day a couple of years ago I confused myself for eternity. The concept of space seemed to question the possibility of reality. According to scientists, although no actual theories have been supported, outerspace is a continuous giant vaccuum. I started to think quite a bit about this and whether it is actually possible. Can something really continue on forever and ever? This seems quite impossible to myself as I wonder how could something just continue on forever without an end. So lets assume that this isn't possible and that somewhere eventually there is an ending...by lets say a wall. It'd be something like when Jim Carey's boat goes threw the wall in the Truman Show...you just all of a sudden run into a wall. But if there is a wall, that means there is something on the other side, whether it be another continuation forever (unless there is of course more walls say every 1 million light years) or a continuous wall. With all of this in mind, some may begin to think that maybe the Truman show is actually a reality of their real life...think about that for a second...all of your friends, family and associates are actors. There are cameras everywhere with people watching, like for example your webcam seems like quite the handy thing to have...or is it. Apart from that side thought, it is also assumed that everything in the universe is in constant "Free Fall". Once again, the issue of continous "Space" comes to mind. If everything in the universe is in constant free fall, according to the physics definition... we would have zero acceleration...which means one of two things. 1- We are moving at a constant velocity, dropping (in which direction however?Up?Down?192 degrees?). 2- We are not moving, therefore everything in space is essentially frozen in that position. As I started running in circles, one last concept came to my mind. Total outerspace is considered the "Universe". Now lets take that and run with it for a second. Lets start from the basics. The Earth is made up of molecules, which is part of the Milky way (solar system), which is part of the collection of Galaxies/Solar Systems, which ultimately is part of the "Universe". But who is say that that is the end? Whose to say that the Universe is not part of another phenomenon...let's call it "Larger Space". And even there, there could be the possibility of several "Larger Spaces" which keep sub-dividing into larger and larger spaces. And once again, we come back to the concept of continuouse "space". These are the concepts that play tricks with my mind each day and I ask you one question....Is it really possible?

well done jay. i enjoyed your thoughts. it raised some poignant and scarry questions.
in response to your wall in space comment. if such a wall exists, and we hit it, have we reached the boundry between the universe and heaven? maybe on the other side of the wall we come face to face with God.
on the other hand, what if on the other side of the wall, or elsewhere in space we come accross nothing. what is nothing? how can it be defined? what does it look like? what colour is it? etc. the concept of nothing could and should be explored to its fullest extent.
all in all your concept left me feeling very small in something so large i cant really begin to understand it.

Jay,

Your piece on the expansiveness of all that 'is' was fascinating to say the least. The notions of a 'limited' and/or 'limitless' universe have often been discussed but rarely so poignantly. I also find the title, 'Impossibilities of the Universe' to be delightfully oxy-moronic, for, in my opinion, it is not the universe that is confined by impossibilities, but rather ourselves and our understanding of it all.

Regarding the content of the post, the idea of a 'wall' is counter-intuitive at first but after giving it some thought I have warmed up to it a bit. The thoughts i 'gave it' were as follows: take any particular moment in your life and you can divise a list of things you know and things you don't know. The latter will inevitably be much much longer than the former. Some may even see life as a way of trying to tip the scales by constantly learning more things, and maybe eventually you'll know more then you do not know. This is, of course, impossible but people try and do it none the less.
Individuals will always be limited by the fact that they are human and humans are inherently imperfect. I feel that there is a parallel between the fact that I don't know what is in a letter until I open it, and that fact that I don't know what is on the other side of the 'wall'. The obvious difference is, of course, that I can open up the letter, read it and see what it is. I can't do that for the wall of the universe. For humans, seeing is believing. In conceptualizing this 'wall', however, I have turned that notion around to suggest that 'believing is seeing.' It sounds kind of stupid but I think it might be the only tool accessible to humans for dealing with the fact that they are imperfect. So, I have found a way to believe in this idea of a wall and to believe that there is something beyond it. Humans will never know more than they don't know and are, therefore, left will little else then belief. You could take this further and ask what is a stronger human faculty, sight or belief? I guess that's up to everyone to decide for themselves.

First off.. everything and anything IS possible... it's just finding the right equation or the right idea. Think about this for a moment... what is reality? Is reality what you see... ( colors, cars, people) Is reality what you feel? ( emotions) What exactly is real and what is not. Is the universe real??? Well it does exist, but understanding it's characteristics are far beyond from understood. Before we can grasp what is reality, we need to learn about this mysterious environment in which we reside in and understand the full potential of the human brain " as an observer" If we look deep enough into the subatomic world... we will see things that will blow our mind away. Things that disappear and return, particles and waves that act like each other and resemble each owns uniqueness. One must come to the conclusion that what we see is not as real as we think. This life is full of mystery and a desire to unveil the truth behind it's making. I have gone into depth of the subatomic world and have found myself lost, confused and wanted to know more. Yes it is true... I have my own philosophy, but that I only share with those who can understand my deepness. Now one more thing before I go. We live in the materialist world. Everywhere we go signs are posted up of the lasted technology. Televisions ( the number one distraction). As humanity expanded into this new era of bright lights and silly stories, all along we have been avoiding the "truth" about "why we are here" what is my purpose". Technology is distracting us from what is real. And who controls what is put out in the market or what is "appropriate" from TV watching. The government? Well of course. The higher, more stronger... better then us people who control how we live our lives and what we learn. But its out there... waiting for it's discovery. Whether it be GOD or something beyond what we can visualize/imagine. And you will not find it in the Universe... braking threw walls or coming to an end. You will find it in you. Your conciseness. Your ability to create your own reality and inevitable, as death approaches as all... I'm sure you are not sent into space searching for that dark wall and will meet the creator. Your mind will be sent on a journey. Be prepared, and learn as much as you can here... because it might be useful and take you to a place that is indeed tranquil. Thank you for your time. Good luck. I will be there with you all.
